Introduction to Security Awareness Training at Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech is bound by several laws, regulations, and contractual requirements to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. As per University policy
2.1009 Information Security Compliance
, Information Technology Services and Security in cooperation with various departments will develop training and education programs to achieve technical proficiency and appropriate use for all employees who have access to information assets.

All University faculty, staff, students, and volunteers must be provided with regular training, supporting reference materials, and reminders to enable them to appropriately protect University information systems.

Goals

The goal of this training is to better educate Michigan Tech employees on good information security practices both at home and at work. Trained individuals are better prepared to handle sensitive University information in accordance with policy, regulation and law, and are best positioned to detect and report efforts to circumvent security controls, and avoid security breaches. Also, trained individuals are able to help educate others; thereby raising the level of security awareness across campus.

Course Enrollment

Each employee will be enrolled in one or more of the training courses based upon current Department and job duties performed, or based upon individual answers to the Information Security & Compliance Survey that was conducted last year.
